Having a visual representation of website performance will help you communicate the impact of your work when presenting to your client or boss. This is why creating Charts on SEMrush can be so helpful. With this tool, users can take multiple domains, choose a metric to compare and plot multiple charts all in a matter of a few clicks.
Visualize Your Data
When you first navigate to the Charts tool, you will see that you are able to enter five individual domains. This allows you to not only plot out your own domain but to also see how you are stacking up against your competition.
After you enter your domains into the search bars you can determine which type of data you wish to analyze. At this time, you are able to plot organic and advertising such as total keywords, traffic, traffic price, new keywords, lost keywords, improved keywords and declining keywords.
Once you plot out your charts you will see just below the domains are all of the different options when it comes to viewing your data. As you can see, your charts will be shown as a line graph by default. However, by selecting the buttons directly to the right, you can switch these charts into a bar graph or a pie chart.
Control the Date Range
Not only do you have the ability to switch up the type of charts you want to analyze, but you can also determine the time frame in which the data is pulled. The Charts tool gives you default time frames of 30 days, half a year, a year, 2 years and all time. These default time frames are located in the toolbar above your actual charts.
You are also able to fully customize a date range by switching over to the calendar view. When you first enter any domain you will automatically be shown your charts in the “intervals” dashboard. This is where you will see the default time frames mentioned above. You can switch to this calendar dashboard by selecting the tab directly to the right of the intervals button above your charts. By doing this you will be able to select the exact month and year that you wish to view data from. This is perfect if you wish to analyze a specific campaign that you ran over a given period of time.
Analyze Multiple Databases
The Charts tool allows you to analyze different data sets for each of your five domains. You will be able to change both the data points being analyzed as well as the database that the data is being pulled from.
With the ability to analyze different metrics or databases, you simply need to uncheck the corresponding box just below the search bars. When these boxes are both checked, all of your searched domain’s will automatically analyze the same set of data from the same databases. Unchecking them now allows you to individualize the data for the different domains.
For example, let's say you’re running a competitor analysis on two different domains but are looking to see different data for each. Maybe you want to compare how one domain performs in the German market to how a second domain performs in the French market. You are able to analyze the number of total keywords for one domain, while also analyzing the number of new keywords gained from another domain.
Plot Multiple Charts at a Time
With the Charts Tool, you can actually plot out more than one chart at a time. This can be hugely beneficial when you are looking to show your data to a prospective client to visually show how a certain set of data is performing. You can then export these two charts separately.
You can create another chart with different domains and data sets, or you can clone the chart you previously created. Both of these options can be done by clicking on either button at the bottom of your chart.
